1) Why are you running?

I am running for re-election because I care deeply about the College of Marin and its future in this time of political and economic turmoil. I feel I kept my promise with the voters in that during my four years as Trustee, we achieved fiscal stability. We strived hard to achieve a 5% reserve and to be relieved of the burden and embarrassment of being on the Chancellor's list of troubled Community Colleges without jeopardizing our curriculum and students. Also, I was instrumental in preserving the community education programs for seniors and disabled students. Now, with the state financial crisis, we are again faced with serious financial shortfalls. My experience in management as well as my orientation as a practicing teacher and educator place me in the unique position of helping to meet the challenges.

2) What do you intend to do about the deadlock between the Board of Trustees and the Academic Senate?

I am one Trustee that has consistently made efforts to bring the Board into closer harmony with the faculty. I believe that the fact I have been endorsed by the Faculty Association indicates that they have confidence in me. Communication is an ongoing and a two-way process. I will certainly try my best to urge my colleagues on the Board to involve the faculty in major policy decisions, and for that matter all staff and students as well, through appropriate channels.

3) What are your thoughts on the "no confidence" vote as to President Middleton and the resulting search for a new president?

I believe that the incident could have been avoided, but the process should have started years ago. We must do our very best to find a new president who can successfully maintain the confidence of the faculty as well as all the other interested parties.

4) The state of College of Marin facilities at both campuses has been the subject of major debate in the community. Where do you stand on the issue and what do you propose to do about it?

No question but the aging facilities and lack of maintenance have to be addressed. I feel that the only way to meet the tremendous expense is to institute and pass a bond. The question is timing and the Board is waiting upon a survey to determine the feasibility of
going to the voters in 2004. I feel that we must wait to see what the survey indicates before making a final judgment on the matter as to when and the cost.

5) The partnership agreement with San Francisco State has already been approved. What will you do to see it implemented?
