Leslie Dennis, 18 is a second semester student. Like many others the barrage of rising costs shocks her and widespread cut backs that have been affecting College Of Marin. Leslie is taking nine units and is working full time as an assistant manager and lives with her parents. She is financially struggling this year because of the higher costs. She was shocked to find that costs will be going up much more with the coming fall semester. She attends COM with no scholarships, saying she has no time for all of the paperwork involved, although she is interested in some financial help.

Dennis came to this school because of the Arts program, to pursue a musical theater major. She found a welcome refuge in the arts classes. When she was taking academic classes, she found she was failing all of her classes, with arts classes added to her schedule, she has begun to enjoy school again and is making better grades.

Recently, the arts program has been slashed due to the recent budget cuts. This greatly disappoints Dennis, who says with the cuts in the budgets." I don't have any inspiration," " I travel all the way from the east bay for the arts here, but if there is no arts, why am I going here?" Said Dennis, who plans on not returning to College of Marin in the fall because of these cutbacks.
