September 27, 1961
"Cafeteria card sharks and half-clad beatniks will either have to conform to a new administrative ruling or center their activities off campus." Prohibition of card playing and "informal dress" was officially approved by the board of trustees at their recent meeting. The trustees strongly approve the ruling and passed it unanimously, commenting that it would be highly beneficial to students and to the reputation of the school.
September 7, 1965
CHP issues a warning to all College of Marin jaywalkers. In hopes of stopping jaywalkers from crossing College Avenue to the P.E. Building, the CHP will start issuing citations to all students who cross illegally. Those cited must take a class on the dangers of jaywalking and pay a fine.
September 4, 1974
For the first time in the College of Marin's history, faculty members took to the sidewalks, picketing increased medical benefits for both retired and active members and a 12 percent pay increase. Faculty members say that there has not been a real salary raise in at least 10 years.
September 10, 1980
An epidemic of parking permit pilferers has spread throughout the campus. A total of six faculty and 12 student decal permits have been stolen. One pre-law student was caught stealing a faculty permit and possibly faces suspension. The bumper decals were mostly being stolen off cars with black bumpers.
September 20, 1985
Mall mania comes to Marin. The Village at Corte Madera unveils its 96 shops and restaurants, totaling 417,000 square feet.
September 23, 1997
Nobel Prize-winner in Chemistry, Glenn T. Seaborg, visits College of Marin to give a lecture on "My Service Under 10 Presidents and Modern Alchemy." Seaborg won the Nobel Prize in 1951 for his work in on the chemistry of transuranium elements. He co-discovered plutonium.
