UPCOMING CLUB EVENTS

***** On Thursday, September 27th, the Students for Social Responsibility is hosting a Democratic State Senate Candidates' Forum at College of Marin's Kentfield Campus. The event runs from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in Olney Hall, room # 96.
The candidates scheduled to appear are:
Senator Carole Migden
Assemblyman Mark Leno
Trustee MCCD Phil Kranenburg
S.F. Police Commissioner Joe Alioto.
Admission is free, all are welcome.

***** On Thursday and Friday, September 27th and 28th, Associated Students of College of Marin (ASCOM) will be offering a free continental breakfast in the quad. They offered this at the beginning of the year to welcome new students, and all seemed to enjoy the free coffee, bagels, cream cheese and jam.

***** On Saturday, September 29th, the Dancers Guild is having a garage sale outside the Dance and Landscape Building on the College of Marin Campus, Kentfield. The sale will be open from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.

Successes

***** On September 12, the Latino Student Union held a lunch sale in the quad. The menu: quesadillas, rice and beans served with guacamole and sour cream. (yum!) They are raising money for scholarships and to finance a Halloween Dance to be held on October 26th.

***** College of Marin welcomes its new Astronomy Club! It's first "Star-B-Que" was held on Sept. 8 at 4:00 p. m. at the Bootjack campground on Mt. Tamalpais. This event was hosted by the San Francisco Amateur Astronomers. SFAA offered free hot dogs and hamburgers to all club members, staff, and faculty of COM.
Telescopes were available for viewing the late summer skies.

***** Also the Astronomical Association of Northern California is holding its annual conference on Sept. 29 from 11:00 a. m. until midnight at the College of San Mateo campus, 1700 West Hillsdale Blvd., San Mateo. Activities include Planetarium shows and live digital photography. This event is free of charge. For more information contact Michael Kran at michael.kran@kran.com.

Veterans Wanted: New Club

A message from Dan Widger, campus police officer and war vet.: "We've got students here at COM who have served in Iraq and elsewhere. We're trying to start a veteran's club for students who are still in the military reserves or National guard, or already discharged. Our goal would be to figure out ways they can help others like themselves, find out what benefits the college can offer, or just sit around and tell war stories." To express an interest in the club students can contact police officer Dan Widger by phone at (415) 485-9455.
